Our Horses
Meet our friendly and hard working horses. Some are on loan, some have been donated, others have been purchased. Each one of them needs financial support to help feed, clothe and look after them. Every donation is gratefully received towards their upkeep. You can help by adopting one of our lovely horses for which you'll receive a photograph and certificate.

Albert
Hello! My name is Albert and I arrived at Rossington Hall RDA in the autumn of 2021 aged 10. I am a Welsh B chestnut gelding standing at 13.2 hands high.
I have done some showing and jumping, and lots of children have enjoyed riding me over the years so I am very versatile. I can be a bit of quick walker though so not the best pony to ride if you want to go really slow!
As I love lots of fuss and being around children my owner thought I would like life at RDA and they were right! I soon got used to my new surroundings and settled in well.

Bob
Hello! My name is Bob and I arrived at Rossington Hall RDA towards the end of summer 2018 aged 9. I am 13.2 hands high and a piebald (black and white) gelding.
I used to do a lot of carriage driving and then I was a childrens pony for about two years. I guess I’m not the quickest of ponies, so when the children wanted to move on to something faster, my owner thought that my steady nature would be ideal for the smaller riders at RDA so here I am!
It took a while for me to get used to the other horses but Murphy and I became the best of friends and enjoy being together in the field.

Daisy
Hello! My name is Daisy and I arrived at Rossington Hall RDA in Spring of 2017 aged 6. I am a piebald (black and white) mare standing at 16 hands high, so quite a big girl!
My previous owner brought me over from Ireland. After she had an accident she wanted a gentle and steady horse like me to help her get back into riding. I must have done a really good job because she now has her confidence back and is riding faster horses.
Everyone thought my steadiness would be ideal for RDA, especially as my size means I can take the bigger riders, so here I am!

Ernie
Hello! My name is Ernie and I arrived at Rossington Hall RDA in April 2015 aged 3 years. I’m a black gypsy cob gelding and stand at 12.1 hands high.
I am a rescue pony from the RSPCA but I don’t know where I came from before that. The National Horseracing College took me in and they thought I’d make a good pony for the RDA. So here I am!
I love lots of attention and used to be a bit of a fidget when waiting to be groomed (I’ve even knocked my saddle off the rail a few times when no-one was looking) but I’m a lot more patient now. I enjoy taking the small children round and have done quite well at local shows “in hand”.

Murphy
Hello! My name is Murphy and I arrived at Rossington Hall RDA in the spring of 2019 aged 6. I am 13 hands high, a blue and white gelding (similar to a piebald) and have blue eyes.
My owner was moving away and thought I would enjoy life at RDA so here I am! I settled in quickly and soon found myself taking the smaller children round.
I am a “cheeky chappie” who loves being groomed and likes being ridden over small jumps. I have become really good pals with Bob, and we often share our hay and groom each other when we aren’t working.

Hello! My name is Pocket and I arrived at Rossington Hall RDA early in 2022 aged 8. My real name is Apollo but my owners gave me this nickname early on and it’s stuck. I am a piebald (black and white) gelding standing at 13.2 hands high.
I have done some carriage driving and was a children’s pony until they outgrew me. It was a bit strange being with new horses at first but I enjoy being with them all now. I am a friendly pony and fond of giving kisses to people which makes me very popular with the volunteers and riders.

Shelly
Hello! My name is Shelly and I arrived at Rossington Hall RDA early in 2024 aged 7. My full name is Dromalga Shelly and I am a piebald (black and white) mare standing at 14.2 hands high.
I came over from Ireland to Goole but the people who bought me found they couldn’t really afford the time and expense of keeping me so I came to RDA. I am very easy going and good natured so ideal for RDA work. I settled in really quickly and soon started taking part in riding sessions.
Become a volunteer
Are you looking for a new challenge?
Could you give some time (from a couple of hours a week to more) helping with events, fundraising or helping us during our sessions? If you could spare some time, however little, please contact us to find out how you can make a huge difference to children and adults with disabilities.
We are a friendly group of trustees, coaches and volunteers, who want to enable both children and adults to experience the joy of riding. Riding helps promote confidence, balance, suppleness and also encourages social interaction, as well as giving huge pleasure to both riders and volunteers.
