Who we are

RDA Rossington is a member of a National Organisation with 500 self financing individual groups throughout the UK.
Each of these groups are all separately registered charities and they are all governed by a Membership Agreement with the National Body (RDA National), the RDA Membership Manual and a Standard Group Constitution.

The National Body is divided into 18 Regions and each Region is divided into Counties. Support, advice and training for the Member Groups are all delivered through the Regional and County structure. H.R.H. Princess Anne, a lover of horses, is the National Patron.

Rossington Hall Group is a local group which has been operating since 1987 offering riding experience to clients from Social Education Centres and Special Needs Schools. We also cater for private clients referred to us by their GP or Health Professional.

The whole group, practical and administration, is operated by a team of committed volunteers and the results are their reward.

We are People and horses working together to improve the lives of riders.

Our Base

We are based at the National Horseracing College at Rossington Hall, which is set in wonderful grounds with a woodland and nature environment. Perfect for a gentle hack into the countryside.

Our Riders

Riding for the Disabled offers a wonderful experience for people to reach their full potential. Ofsted recognises the value the RDA activities provide to help to improve our clients, including communication, social skills, numeracy, literacy and confidence. Everyone is equal on a horse.

Our Volunteers

Without the commitment and donated time of our team of volunteers, we could not exist. They are dedicated to helping people with disabilities experience the benefits and pleasures of riding to improve their health and general wellbeing. We are a registered Duke of Edinburgh Award Training Provider with our Coaches taking on this extra responsibility to develop volunteers.

Our Future

Our aim is to develop the Group with longer operating hours to enable more riders to benefit. We spent several years fundraising to build our own Indoor School. This enables us to always offer our service, no matter what the weather. In the future we may possibly incorporate carriage driving, currently operated by other selected groups.

"I am recovering from a stroke this helped me slowly get fit again"

Mr Andy Smith

I Saw a Child

I saw a child who couldn’t walk,
Sit on a horse, laugh and talk
Then ride it through a field of daisies
And yet he could not walk unaided.

I saw a child, no legs below,
Sit on a horse and make it go
Through the woods of green
And places he had never been
To sit and stare,
Except from a chair.

I saw a child who could only crawl,
Mount a horse and sit up tall.
Put it through degrees of paces
And laugh at the wonder in our faces.

I saw a child born into strife,
Take up and hold the reins of life,
And that same child was heard to say…
Thank God for showing me the way.
