One of our Volunteers - Sandra

sand

Hi,

I’m Sandra and I’ve been volunteering at Rossington RDA since March 2013. I’m a lady of leisure (retired) an animal lover and horse owner. Well, he’s more like a fireside pet actually – he would be if he could fit through the door.
I’d wanted to volunteer for the RDA for some time but it was my friend Babs, who was already volunteering and talked about it constantly that made me take the plunge.

I only go one afternoon a week as I do volunteering at Sandall Park which takes up alot of my time, and I cycle with my husband when the weather is decent – which takes up the rest of my time! I can sometimes fill in on other days when volunteers are short on the ground. I became a Trustee in 2014 and sit on the fundraising committee.

Going to the RDA to help is very rewarding and humbling. To be able to provide a horse riding experience to people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to ride or be with horses is gratifying to say the least. The pleasure on their faces is priceless, especially when they throw their arms around a horse’s neck and declare “I love you” with real feeling.

Like a lot of charities, the RDA is dependant upon volunteers for its very existence - there can never be enough. So I’m thankful that I am in a position to be able give up some of my time, albeit a small contribution.
